A hunchback old man once questioned a lecturer who made the statement that, “Everything is perfect in God’s Creation”. He asked, “If everything is perfect, then how is it that Jam hunchbacked? The answer was, “This is because you are a PERFECT hunchback”.Sometimes, when difficulties arise, we too ask the same question, “Is everything Perfect in God’s Creation?” The answer is not always immediate, but somewhere later on in our lives the answer pops up, and it is “YES GOD’S CREATION IS PERFECT.”
As a little girl, I grew up in the peaceful village of Freeport, within a household where severe restrictions were enforced and where the head of the home (my father) always had the final say in the lives of his children.
At this point I will pause a little to support the fact that “God’s Creation is Perfect”. My father (recently deceased) - was a handicapped man (as I knew him from birth) perfectly handicapped (having just one arm). But he portrayed the role of a perfect father; he was a perfect family man and a perfect leader in society. Despite the fact that he was short-limbed, sometimes unlike most other “normal” men, he stood up with great strength in life for his family and people. It was a MUST on a Sunday morning that ALL his children start the week by putting God first (that is, going to temple). At the time I thought that this practice was too routine rather than spiritual. It is only later on in life that I realized that what I considered too routine was actually a blessing in disguise.
At the age of 20, I got married, and through all the challenges at that time I never gave up nor did I cease praying. Eventually, our union brought forward two blessed and gifted children who caused our husband-wife relationship to grow stronger.
As a working mother and typical Indian wife, I continued to serve my husband well, assist in providing for my children, build a beautiful home environment and, most importantly NEVER forgot to give thanks to my Maker. I knew that God had greater plans for me, but the question remained “What were those plans?” Eventually I found the answer to this question in what became my life’s greatest gift the Janew Sanskaar or taking of the holy thread and thereby earning the respectable title Pundita Lutchmie Ramdeen. Although the general consensus was that the transition to this type of life is difficult, for me it proved to be smooth as I was already walking this path.
But something did happen to me. My strength, courage and patience, in facing actual life situations, grew tremendously. I was determined to be an example to women in family life and the world at large. Being a practicing Pundita gave me mental strength and more so spiritual strength. I was given the urge to pray one hundred times more than I did before.
My life continued to be no bed of roses, but now with God walking alongside me I withstand these trials like a pillar. Everything in my life was perfect because it all shaped me to be everything I am today, a Pundita and a pillar of strength I never knew I could be.
Today I urge you to remember, always remember, that our maker is the master of perfection, He makes things happen in our lives at the correct and appropriate time even though we may not understand the reasons behind them immediately.
Devotees, this Creation is perfect. Perfect in all walks of life.
We can choose to be:
1. Perfect human beings
2. Perfect leaders
3. Perfect friends
4. Perfect devotees
5. Perfect examples, and the list goes on
We are all part of God’s Creation and it is up to us to choose which way we want to go and which perfection we wish to claim.
And always remember:
“EVERYTHING IS PERFECT IN GOD’S CREATION”
